In the face of genocide
Silence only aides the oppressor
Silence is not a neutral position
Neutrality only aides the oppressor
When the imbalance of violence and power is so stark, the position of neutrality ceases to exist.
I believe in the equal right to life, free of oppression, free of occupation, and free of the fear of being forced out of ones home or even killed at any given moment.
I know that the Israeli government, aided by our very own government and banks such as Barclays and countless others, are destroying Palestine, Lebanon and their people's right to an equal life. It is an act of settler colonialism fuelled by racism and capitalism.
My artistic and choreographic work has always played with edges and nuance. But in such urgent times I cannot afford to leave space for interpretation. I feel the need to be direct. I have to act. This is a genocide happening in front of our eyes, and if it is not interfering with our every day lives then we are living in ignorance. Let the movement for the liberation of Palestine interrupt your work. Give it space and time. Give it a voice, in any way you can.
