Contrapposto

A description of the asymmetry of the body when standing. Most of the weight of the body is resting on one leg or on one foot, and the other leg or foot is more relaxed. Posto: from placed postural pose and contra: against. It creates an S shape in the human body and Greek and Roman statues are in a contrapposto pose as are the sinuous shapes of Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo art.

Contrapposto can also be a very queer universe. A way of standing that is not two feet firmly planted on the ground, but is sloped off, with all the glamour on one hip. It can have a radical edge; it's strong, but simulates weakness, it’s relaxed, but difficult to maintain. A complex, arch, and camp way of holding the body.
