In arts funding in the UK, research is often linked to development, as in R&D funding, where it means the experimental ideas stage before materialisation. In this usage, research becomes synonymous with process and opposed to production. We are keen not to automatically reproduce these relationships between activities and knowledge exchange. Choreographic Research can be different for each of the artists in the School and we don’t need to remain faithful to one approach.
