Mountain-Place-Relational

Mountain-Place-Relational performance rather than site-specific or site-related articulates an ongoing and unfolding understandings of place that encompasses the wider complexities of these environments.

Arriving at this term was in relation to conversations with Professor Jonathan Pitches, and considering his coining of the term, ‘mountain-site-related’ performance (2020, p.137), in direct reference to Kwon (2004) and the lineage of scholars continuing to explore the expanded term of site-related and site-specific within performance and dance research. This is mentioned in the footnotes of a recent book chapter expanding on the Into the Mountain project.
